RaeLynn gives fans a taste of ‘Baytown’ on new album, his ‘more personal’ looks like Nashville yet

RaeLynn continues to give listeners a glimpse of where she’s coming from on her second studio album, Baytown, released September 24. Complete 14-Track Collection Adds Eight Songs to Its 2020 Baytown EP, deepening who she is and continuing to establish her unique brand of country music. The tunes on the album feature RaeLynn’s hometown of Baytown, Texas through their lyrical content – as in “Small Town Prayer,” “Rowdy” and others – but the project was also inspired by the various musical styles that RaeLynn grew up throughout his youth. .
âI grew up with so many different types of so many people, so many different races, so many different cultures, but we were in a more rural town,â RaeLynn said. Looks like Nashville. âI think this is represented in my music. You hear these pop, R&B influences, but you also hear these country influences. I always said I grew up with a Beyoncé and Dolly Parton playlist and 808s and banjos. That’s what my playlist was like when I was a kid.
These R&B and pop influences mingle with country in “Get That All The Time”, a duet with Mitchell Tenpenny. In the alluring tune written by RaeLynn, Tyler Hubbard, Kane Brown, and Corey Crowder, the singer and Tenpenny swap pickup lines while mellow beats and banjo instrumentals accompany them.
“I met [Mitchell] right when I moved to town, and her voice is so good, âRaeLynn said. “He’s got so much booty and he’s just funny as hell and makes me laugh and a good guy.” I sent him this song and it was like, without a doubt, he wanted to do it, which was so nice. I was so grateful.
RaeLynn then teams up with a longtime friend and her former trainer on The voice, Blake Shelton, for the fun and witty âWhy I have a Truckâ. RaeLynn said that after years of searching for the right song for them both, she wrote “Why I Got A Truck” with Shelton in mind. The two performers audibly enjoy themselves on the track singing the tune of the ultra-country truck with humorous conversational moments between the two.
RaeLynn is also slowing the project down with the very personal âShe Chose Me,â a raw and honest song about how she came into the world – her mother choosing to have her and raise her through thick and thin.
“I started asking questions, and I discovered truths that I didn’t necessarily know and it was hard for me to know that my mother almost didn’t choose me, almost decided that she didn’t didn’t know if this was the right path for her, but I’m so grateful that she decided to keep me and make that decision, âRaeLynn said.â If you listen to the song, I can’t imagine what It was like that decision to be married to someone and all of that stuff, but I think the one thing I love so much about this song is that it isn’t judgmental. “
As much as the 27-year-old delves into her past on the album, she also sings her present, which is to be the new mother to her daughter, Daisy, born on September 8. The final track, “Made For Me To Love (Demo)” is the love song she wrote to her unborn child when she first found out she was pregnant. The track brings the journey of Baytown at its end, the conclusion of the album that RaeLynn calls his “most personal” project to date.
âI would definitely say this is my most personal to date,â she says. “When I got out WildHorse, that was definitely the basis of who I was when I first moved to Nashville and myself finding what I wanted to say and what I wanted to write about and it created that beautiful foundation for me. I would say that for sure Baytown am i building this amazing house of what i want to represent and what i want to show people and what i want to exude.
