Paradise Rising continues to innovate with new compilation album, semilucent 2 – Manila Bulletin
With the aim of establishing a presence for Filipino artists in the West and globally through music distribution, music rights management and artist development, Paradise Rising has more than met expectations since its launch in July 2020. .
Parade Rising has taken the Filipino music industry by storm with its well-received debut album, semilucent, a compilation album that transcends genres and features an impressive array of emerging Filipino artists.
Now Parade Rising returns with a new set of artists on their upcoming EP and the second installment of their compilation album, semilucent. The latest compilation, semilucent 2, features new artists both local and diasporic.
semilucent 2 is a 5 track EP that offers genre-mixing acoustics, memorable melodies and high-energy 808s. Unlike the dreamy, airy glow of the songs from the first draft, semilucent 2 is inspired by the darker vibe that comes with the end of summer and a yearning for memories of the past.
Highlights include exciting new recordings by Vancouver, Canada-based duo MANILA GRAY; Philippine singer and instrumentalist Steven Peregrina; young Amsterdam-based R&B artist daze; hip-hop powerhouse from New York, Calif., Christian Alexander; veteran rapper and songwriter Curtismith; and Filipino-American electronic producer Manila Killa with multi-talented global vocal artist Yuna.
For Steven Peregrina, his track “All Night” is “all about good vibes, good times and partying”. He adds: âI am super excited and delighted to be part of the semilucent 2 EP. I consider this song to be my “TakeOff” and you should all be ready for me! So, Asia, here I am.
For Manila Gray, “Island Baby (Maarte)” brings a new atmosphere to the compilation project. âIn this song, we show love to all the beautiful women in our lives, women who represent the vibrancy and class of our culture, both in our hometown of Vancouver. Maarte is high maintenance slang in Filipino, but it actually means artistic. We just wanted to turn this tale into something fun, while showcasing art and grace. All the strong women in our lives have high standards, sometimes you need that energy, you know? Like go ahead, everything is fine, feel yourself, âthe group noted.
According to Daze, his song “Situation” is about a relationship between two people who are between love and friendship, or a situation. Neither of the two really wants to admit how much they love each other, but the tension and the passion keep on rising until they both can’t deny it anymore. This is a touching song with layers and layers of melodies that express desire, connection and doing an act. of faith, âDaze revealed.
CA Christian Alexander said he and Curtismith “are thrilled to be a part of the semilucent 2 EP because we have the opportunity to represent the Philippines on the 88rising global platform and inspire the next generation of artists to continue to advance Filipino musical culture “.
Alexander shared that his collaboration with Curtismith, âBlack Heartsâ is âan RnB trap song about how cold relationships can be. Welcome to the dark side of Heaven.
For ‘Reminisce’, Manila Killa shares that he ‘started the instrumental track in my forties when I didn’t feel any pressure to create a specific type of music. This was at a time when I felt artistically free – there were no shows coming up and everything was at a standstill so I took the opportunity to try things that I hadn’t done yet. . When I found out that Yuna was interested in the song, I was so excited to work with her because I’m a longtime fan. She perfectly understood the vibe I was looking for with the track and transformed it from that fun disco demo into something raw, emotional and reminiscent of better times.
Yuna, who is on the track, said, âWhen I heard the Manila Killa instrumental track, I was at a point in my life where I had to start being creative in a new environment. I was home with my family, it was so different from what I’m used to. But listening to ‘Reminisce’ just inspired me to write something touching, about the romance of the past or a memory that lives in your head forever, âYuna says.
âAfter I sent in my voice, Manila Killa took this song to a whole new level, I was blown away. I’m so lucky to have been able to work with such a talented musician who understood the vibe and the emotions of what I was singing.
88 Founder and CEO Sean Miyashiro took note of the “dynamism in the way talented young artists are emerging and such a massive music loving audience.”
âWe want to support their voices, help them be heard and bring Philippine music to a global audience,â Miyashiro concluded.
