Mason Collective tells us about an essential selection of music
MASON COLLECTIVE – the dynamic trio of Blair Suarez, Adam Myles and Omar Guedar – are rapidly rising on the underground music scene.
Their MVSON parties caused a sensation. They organize their own mini-fest, MVSON World Festival on Saturday, at Arley Hall & Gardens in Northwich, Cheshire, inviting Pawsa, Seb Zito and Luuk Van Dijk to join them for what should be a fabulous knee-high.
We caught up with Mason Collective as they told us about a playlist of personal favorites and tracks from their Whippin’ Records label.
Mason Collective – Whippin’
It was our first solo release, and it was our first number 1 release on Beatport. It was also the first time we saw one of our tracks play in Ibiza, when Jamie Jones played it at DC10, so this one is special for us. He had to be first on the list.
Mason Collective, LiTek – Peru
Our twist on “Peru” with LiTek, which has probably become our most anticipated track to date. We started playing it around December last year and since then the hype has only grown. It’s been requested at almost every set we’ve played recently. It is a good track of well-being.
Joseph Edmund – Lose Your Body
Hymn by Joseph Edmund which is also one of the biggest titles of our label ‘Whippin Records’. This one is a real crowd pleaser and gets a big reaction every time we play it.
AJ Christou – Meet & Beat
Groover by AJ Christou. It was actually the second release on our Whippin label, coming after our own EP Wifey. Creating a label was something we intended to do from the start. We launched Whippin to showcase the ‘mason sound’ and shine a light on the quality of music coming out of Manchester, as well as create a platform for the best new talent, signing a fiery EP from our friend AJ for our second label release meant a lot.
Reme – Unpleasant Expressions
An excellent cutting edge track and quality release from REME, which was released on Whippin. This is one of our favorite tracks from him, and one of his too. This one got a lot of support.
Mason Collective, Joseph Edmund – Nitty Gritty
A piece of us and Joseph Edmund, recently released on our Whippin Heat VA. He’s another good friend of ours and a regular at Whippin, so it was great to collaborate and create this heater.
Mason Collective, AJ Christou – Get Stoned (edition)
Another collaboration from Manchester. A montage of us and AJ Christou, which has become one of our personal favorites. The original of this is from some of our favorite artists, Inland Knights. We were just paying homage to them, an oldschool track with a new twist.
Daniel Orpi – Angel of the Guarda
It’s an incredible track by Daniel Orpi, also released on Whippin. This one has great meaning behind it, as it is a tribute to his late grandmother. It always gets a crazy reaction and was one of our favorite tracks from last year.
Mason Collective – Naija Boi
One of our favorites on Yaya’s Tamango Records. We came across @nigyboyagain on Instagram, a young blind boy from Jamaica who posts amazing covers of popular tracks. We sampled the vocals from one of his covers and created something really awesome with it.
Mason Collective – Let’s Go
This is our latest solo release, another high energy groover, signature “mason sound” track. It has a classic old school house feel. We often use this one to open our sets, it’s a real party starter. Our first release on Knee Deep In Sound too.
