From minimal house to deep disco grooves, the independently run event gives artists the space they need to experiment and acquire the skills to gain confidence as a DJ, moving up the ranks from chamber DJ to chamber DJ. club selector.
Speaking to Sam Pratt, one of tonight’s organizers, he said:
“The ideology [of Wav.] is that we’re always going to put in local artists and support baby DJs who just started playing and don’t really trust them.
“When we started [Wav.] we were looking to attract those kinds of DJs and crowds and give them a chance – plus their friends could come and see Distrikt as the perfect venue for underground music. “
First founded three years ago by Pratt and his friend Alessandro Martini, Wav. quickly went from a small-scale event to a staple at the Distrikt Bar.
This year, club night has been given a bi-monthly slot on the venue’s calendar, reflecting the success and big names Pratt and Martini are now starting to book.
Tonight’s event welcomes DeMarzo from PIV Records to the decks for an evening of house, minimal and deep techno after his hit at Mint Warehouse late last year.
As a multi-instrumentalist, DeMarzo injects groove into his productions and sets; his perfectionism and his keen sense of rhythm naturally lead him to the critical acclaim he enjoys today.
On DeMarzo, Sam Pratt added:
âWe’re really excited to drop it as the first big title we have, but we still keep the same philosophy as always and put in people who maybe can’t play as often as they should.
“We’re always going to push this.”
Pratt and Martini, along with Dan Barrientos of Libero Records, will join DeMarzo tonight.
Wav. is free to enter and starts at 5pm today at Distrikt Bar Leeds, with the event running until 2am.
