Listen to the new single “Weekend Run” from Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Unknown Mortal Orchestra shared their first new music of the year, releasing the single “Weekend Run”.
The latest from the psych-rockers is an enchanted, groove-rich cut, with strong notes of disco influence underpinning the five-minute track.
In a statement, conductor Ruban Nielson said, âAt the end of the day, I don’t take it for granted that I have the perfect job. I really work to make music that will fix someone’s day and I think that comes through on ‘Weekend Run’.

âWeekend Runâ is the first official âsingleâ from Unknown Mortal Orchestra since their 2018 album âSex & Foodâ, but Nielson and co. have occupied since its release.
That year, they shared the experimental and jazz-oriented instrumental album ‘IC-01 Hanoi’. The band also continued their annual tradition of releasing a long instrumental track every Christmas, with âSB-07â in 2019 and âSB-08â arriving last year.
Aside from their own releases, UMO has also featured on many tracks by other artists over the past two years, such as Free Nationals’ “Beauty & Essex” in 2019 and Amine’s “Buzzin” in 2020. The band Also featured as part of Gorillaz’s “Song Machine” series last year, appearing on the track “Severed Head” alongside GoldLink.
Nielson has also dropped several remixes over the past 12 months, giving his opinion on Soccer Mommy’s âcircle the drainâ last year and reworking Westerman’s âDrawbridgeâ in February.
