Hold for a hero

Heartfelt vocals decorated with haunting harmonies, floating wind chimes and blanketed with warm acoustic guitar sounds are all elements that make Cara McGillion’s cover of “Holding Out for a Hero” truly unique.
Sprinkling the Bonnie Tyler classic with a distinct country flavor, the 19-year-old’s brand new single also features an undercurrent of soft strings – complemented wonderfully by fading harmonicas – which together give emotional detail. piece.
Speaking to the ‘Herald, the talented lead singer from Tyrone said the track, recorded by Sound Garden Studios’ David Doonan, Drumquin, was her ‘favorite’ recorded work to date.
â’Holding Out for a Hero’ is a song I’ve always loved, and I also love stripped-down, acoustic, raw songs,â said Cara, born and raised in Omagh. âSo by combining the two, David and I created an arrangement that has never been done before. It sounds completely different from the original.
âIt’s also very moving: my voice is accompanied by guitar and embellishments along the way, while the backing vocals are also very simple.
“I play them myself, which I found very exciting,” added the 19-year-old. âWhen I heard them mingle with the other sounds in the song, I felt it was beautifully haunting.
‘Really me’
“I also think the song helps people, the listeners, understand what kind of artist I am: the song really is me.”
With a brand new album on the horizon, Cara, who is studying a BA Hons in musical theater practice at John Moores University in Liverpool, thanked everyone for their brilliant support in recent times and throughout the pandemic. .
âHonestly, I’m in awe of how kind people have shown me, during the lockdown and especially now with this song,â she said. ” Thank you to all of you.
âI also want to thank the fabulous David Doonan: he is extremely talented, and I am always grateful to have him in my corner.
âI also have to thank my mom and dad for their hard work behind the scenes; they are 100 percent the classic definition of âworkerâ and I am extremely proud to say that they are my parents.
âWithout them, none of this would be possible. “
