The song “Ozean“by German indie rock band AnnenMaiKantereit not only has become one of my favorite songs over the past few years, but also holds a very special place in my heart.

I discovered the song about two years ago and it has stuck with me ever since.

At that time, I was probably going through one of the most difficult times of my life. Having to overcome difficult personal experiences has brought me to work on my mental health and self-care.

When I first listened to the song, I felt like someone had written it especially for me.

It wasn’t just because the song is in my native language. The lyrics made me feel understood, and the sound and music itself felt like a warm hug from a friend.

I know most people reading this won’t understand German, but that’s one of the reasons I chose this particular song. I have the impression that you don’t necessarily have to understand the lyrics, the music itself is already so rich in emotions.

However, the lyrics also have a deep meaning.

“Ozean” does not consist in running away from your problems and your fears, even if this may seem to be the case when you listen to the song for the first time. These are new beginnings.

The song is about how difficult it can be to leave things or people behind.

But that does say that sometimes all you need is a little distance from these things – and in some circumstances it takes a little more. Sometimes he needs a whole sea of space.

German:

“Ich liebe meine Freunde

und wie wir miteinander sind

und trotzdem muss ich möglichst schnell

irgendwo anders hin

Irgendwo, wo im Winter die Sonne scheint

Irgendwo, wo ich allein und ohne Vergangenheit

von vorne anfangen kann ”

English:

“I love my friends

And how we are with each other

Yet I have to go elsewhere

As fast as possible

Somewhere where the sun shines in winter

Where I, alone and without a past,

can start over “

The song, similar to most of AnnenMayKantereit’s music, conveys many important thoughts and impressions. Their music can help you understand yourself better and, most importantly, learn not to be so hard on yourself. The song showed me that I might need more time than I thought and nothing about it makes me feel bad or weak.

An important factor that creates the special and unique sound of AnnenMayKantereit has to be the distinctive and rough voice of lead singer Henning May. I admire the way they compose their songs so that they are simple in some ways, but still convey maximum atmosphere and emotion in the production.

Most of their compositions are downloaded completely uncut and unedited as “Barfuß Am Klavier“, which gives audiences the rare opportunity to feel the raw emotion, as well as hear the imperfections of the song right now. They also cover English tracks such as” Kylie Minogue. “I can’t get you out of my head. “

Ozean made me realize that I definitely needed an ocean to end my past, but that’s what brought me here to California, 5,817 miles from home.

And I wouldn’t want to change it for the world.
