Five Nights returns in 2021-22 after a season hiatus

MARION — As part of its community outreach mission, Ohio State University at Marion is pleased to announce its lineup for the upcoming season of the popular cultural and performing arts series, Five Nights on Campus.

After a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s season kicks off Thursday, October 14 with the closely matched female trio America’s Sweethearts. Bettman and Halpin, an original Folk / Americana duo will visit the campus in November. In March 2022, the Russian duo’s balalaika, piano and vocal styles will hit the Morrill Hall auditorium stage. April welcomes Helen Welch’s strange combination of Ella’s swing sound and Karen Carpenter’s warm tones in Marion. The season ends in May with the return of popular Celtic band Lone Raven.

The mission of Five Nights on Campus is to provide exceptional and diverse cultural and educational opportunities and to encourage the community to be a part of campus life. The popularity of the campus entertainment series continues to engage the community and bring people to campus.

According to series curator Gary Iams, picking the right issues each year is the most important part of his job to continue to attract a large and diverse audience to campus.

“We’re working with the Ohio Arts Presenters Network, Arts Midwest, and taking suggestions from our season patrons on what acts to bring each season,” Iams said. “Our ultimate goal is to maintain a talented and eclectic roster that will appeal to the masses. “

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Morrill Hall Auditorium. Doors open at 7:00 PM All tickets are general seating. Currently, masking is mandatory indoors for all events, regardless of immunization status. Individual and seasonal subscriptions are now available. Ticket prices remain unchanged for the coming year. Individual performances are priced at $ 10 for general admission, $ 9 for seniors (60 and over), $ 4 for students (grades k-12 and college), and $ 8 for faculty and campus staff . Season ticket prices also remain unchanged for 2021-2022, at $ 50 for Scarlet & Gray Patron tickets; $ 35 general admission; $ 30 seniors; $ 15 for students and $ 28 for faculty and campus staff.

America’s Sweethearts – Thursday, October 14, 2021

America loved the swing sounds of close harmony girl groups even before The Andrews Sisters hit the airwaves with Schön’s Bei Mir Bist in 1937. New show in the spotlight! These New York-based ladies have performed across the United States, prompting crowds to stomp on hits like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy as they celebrate history with their crystal-clear harmonies and colorful costumes. Audiences of all ages are charmed by America’s Sweethearts as they weave their way through a variety of trios, duets and solos… all with a slice of old-fashioned fun!

Bettman and Haplin – Thursday, November 18, 2021

Stephanie Bettman and Luke Halpin have a well-deserved reputation for their mesmerizing performances filled with irresistible lyrics, awe-inspiring harmonies and breathtaking instrumentals. Their music creates a fully acoustic and deliciously eclectic sound far greater than the sum of its parts, taking audiences from home tempo, to soulful ballads, to folk / pop tunes with catchy melodies and lyrics that will stay with you for a long time. after the end of the concert. Bettman and Halpin became known for their playful storytelling and jokes, as well as their catchy songwriting and instrumental magic.

Russian duo – Thursday March 10, 2022

Having performed across the United States and in Russia and Canada, Russian Duo is an international project born out of a love of traditional music and classical elegance. Oleg is a Siberian balalaika virtuoso and Terry is an American concert pianist. They celebrate cross-cultural creativity, exploring the range of possibilities for balalaika, voice and piano. Audiences are taken on a journey through Russian culture – humorous pieces, virtuoso variations, thrilling dance music, rhythmic folk songs and lyrical romances.

Helen Welch – Thursday April 14, 2022

Take Ella’s swing, sprinkle some warm Karen Carpenter viola tones, then add some cheeky British soul and humor and POW… you’ve got the world-famous singer, artist, producer and conductor and critically acclaimed Helen Welch. His beautifully arranged and entertaining shows have an intimately engaged audiences and packed venues around the world. His award-winning show Superstar: The Carpenters Reimagined Stories was produced with the blessing of Richard Carpenter. It’s an original and fresh perspective of songs and stories that finally captures the true quality and essence of The Carpenters, one of the most important selling groups of all time.

Lone Raven – Thursday May 12, 2022

Lone Raven has been one of the most popular shows to take to the Morrill Hall Auditorium stage. Quickly becoming one of the best bands in the Midwest, Lone Raven performs an eclectic mix of traditional music from Celtic lands and various parts of the world, as well as their own original compositions. With more than 20 instruments on stage, the band skims over everything from fiery Irish Reels and Gypsy Fiddle Tunes to spellbinding tunes. Their instrumentals are powered by twin violins of Elizabeth Blickenstaff and Kara Markley Sterling, while being brought to life by an explosive rhythm section composed of Craig Markley and award-winning guitar playing by Neil Jacobs.
