The Coventry rapper A1 has praised the city’s rising music scene as the MOBO Awards are set to take place in December.

The 16-year-old, who goes by the name A1, has teamed up with 18-year-old rapper J1 from Kent – and the couple are moving up the ranks in the music industry.

The dynamic duo released their latest song, “Latest Trends”, which currently ranks second on the UK official charts.

A1, who was born in town, has come a long way from the freestyle bars to his bedroom.

The talented teenager will perform at the upcoming MOBO Awards, one of the UK’s biggest music awards ceremonies, taking place in Coventry.

Today the 16-year-old praised the Coventry music scene, saying it has “come a long way” in providing more opportunities for upcoming artists to take center stage. .

He told Coventry Live: “It shows how far the Coventry music scene has come. The MOBO Awards taking place in Coventry show that we’ve come a long way so it’s really exciting for me to be invited. at this event. “

A1 and J1 revealed exactly how they climbed the charts – all thanks to TikTok. J1 secretly uploaded the track to the social media platform, but A1 didn’t want the song to come out at first.

He added: “J1 uploaded it to TikTok, when I saw it on TikTok I called him and said ‘J1, what are you doing?’

“I didn’t think the song was so good, I thought I could do better. So when I called J1 he said ‘trust me’.”

J1 said, “I asked people to make videos of the song, more and more people started doing it. At first it was friends who made videos of the song, and then it started. started to gain momentum and people from different countries started to use the song. “

Their song “Latest Trends” quickly went viral on TikTok and attracted people like Aitch, who later collaborated with them on the track.

From The Specials and The Selecter to The Enemy, Jay1 and Pa Salieu, Coventry has the shape to produce successful musicians.

The two young rappers gave some advice to future local artists who want to succeed, just like them.
