It’s an opinion Chaka Khan has shared before, but she broods over her feelings about Kanye West sampling her track. The music mogul borrowed Khan’s “Through The Fire” for her hit “Through The Wire,” but after its release, Khan claimed she was unhappy with her version. Earlier in his career, West was known for his “Chipmunk Soul” or “Chipmunk Hip Hop” productions, and he did it with “Through The Fire”, speeding things up to make the vocals high.

Khan recently spoke with Have a nice day DC and was asked if she had since heard of West after expressing her disapproval all these years later. She said no.

“I’m not looking to hear from Kanye either,” Khan said. “No, I haven’t heard of him and I’m not looking to hear from him. That’s what he did. That’s what he did with his music. demand [if] he could use my, sample my song. He didn’t mention he was going to speed it up to three times normal speed.”

Khan added that if West had told her about his plans, she might have rejected his request. Because of West, the singer added that she now has people clarifying exactly how they intend to use her music. She previously called West’s sample “insulting” and “stupid.”
