Brandi Carlile to receive She Is Music Award at City of Hope event

Six-time Grammy-winner Brandi Carlile will receive the “She Is Music” award at the Town of Hope’s 16th annual Songs of Hope celebration, the hospital and cancer research center announced on Monday.
The award recognizes the artist’s contributions to the music industry as a singer, songwriter, musician and producer. Judy Gerson, President and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group and Co-Founder of She Is Music, will honor Carlile during the Thursday night celebration.
In addition to her six Grammy Awards, Carlile is an author, philanthropist, and recipient of the Billboard Women in Music Trailblazer Award and CMT’s Next Woman of Country Impact Award. She was also recognized this year by the American Music Association Honors & Awards as “Artist of the Year”. In addition to Carlile’s solo career, she is also a member of country music group The Highwomen and has collaborated with superstars like Tanya Tucker, Alicia Keys and Dolly Parton.
During the virtual event, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, honors will also be presented to other dignitaries from the music industry, while also highlighting the supportive care medicine department and division City of Hope Health Actions, which provide specialized cancer care to patients and families. .
The winners will include:
– Gracie Abrams and Blake Slakin with the “Facebook Songwriter Impact” award;
– Smokey Robinson with the “Clive Davis’ Legend in Songwriting” award;
– Hildur Guonadottir with the “EA Music Composer of the Year” award;
– Daniel Nigro with the “Sony Music Publishing Creative Trailblazer” award; and
– the late Pop Smoke with the “Warner Chappell’s Voice of Hope” award.
Previous winners include Jack Antonoff, Sarah Bareilles, Snoop Dogg, and Stevie Wonder.
A portion of funds raised at the 16th annual Songs of Hope event will support the work of this year’s Beverly and Ben Horowitz Prize winner, Dr. Loretta Erhunwunsee, whose research aims to eliminate health inequalities among minority and underfunded populations.
