’30 Million Pieces’ by Samantha Lloyd – Available now!
Samantha Lloyd and Belles and Gals go way back. Samantha won the inaugural ‘Best EP’ awards at the Belles and Gals awards in 2017 (these awards were the precursor to the UK Country Music Spotlight Awards) and she performed at the very first live gig hosted by us the same year. in Liverpool.
It’s great to see Samantha return with new music, with “30 Million Pieces” her second release, following the success of “Wither” earlier this year. It’s clear that Samantha has a new direction with her music, both release great examples of an artist with the confidence to do things her own way. The new track is a heartbreaking song in every sense of the word, with the artist immediately telling the listener, ‘You had all my heart, you had all of me, now you broke into 30 million pieces‘ as she launches into the song which questions what could have been. The song’s production gives it a fresh and current vibe, with the new direction of its sound highlighting just how far Samantha has come as an artist. With 2 new singles coming this year, I’m excited to see what’s next, his upcoming EP is already shaping up to be one of the standout releases of 2022.
I had the chance to find Samantha to discuss the song!
This year has seen a new direction in your music. Is it something you aim for or is it a natural progression in your music?
I’ve wanted to change that for so long, part of me was too scared of what other people would think and part of me just didn’t have the guts! I would say it was a natural progression though, and I was less inclined to try to write something to please people, and more to write something for myself. I have to thank Rhys (Foxa Riot) who I wrote and worked with because he’s a great guy and he encouraged me to try new things (like the spoken sections in my new tracks).
Tell us how ’30 Million Pieces’ was born? Was it one of those instant write-ups, or is it a song that developed over time?
Well… IN BRIEF, I was heartbroken hahaha, there is no other way to put it. I was in pieces and wanted to write a song that portrayed that. I felt such loss and such grief, I had never experienced such grief, really. A few weeks before we (Myself & Rhys) wrote and recorded “30 Million Pieces”, I posted a YouTube cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U”. While it’s obviously very different from that, it’s kind of my song “Nothing Compares 2 U”. As for the time scale, this came together pretty quickly, it turns out that heartbreaking songs are some of the quickest to write, who knew!
What can we expect from you in the weeks and months to come?
I have 2 more singles to release this year, which will complete my EP for 2022. I want to be as consistent as possible, I’ve written a lot and I’m very excited to release more in 2023. I have a band together, we had our first headlining gig at Stoke at The Underground. I look forward to other shows. I’m sure I’m going to annoy people with my online presence but hey, I’m an independent artist so I have to try to reach as many audiences as possible. I try to be as productive as possible with my time, my dreams are still big and maybe unrealistic, but if you don’t try you will never know.
